Yandex Maps Adds Upcoming Speed Limits and Camera Direction Details to Navigation
Yandex Maps has introduced significant improvements to its navigation mode for both private users and corporate clients. The service now displays upcoming speed limits along the planned route and indicates the direction of the two nearest road cameras.
Previously, the application only showed the permitted speed for the current road segment. The updated version presents a full sequence of restrictions, enabling drivers to anticipate changes well in advance. For example, Yandex Maps can warn that the limit is first 80 km/h, then drops to 60 km/h after an interchange, and later to 40 km/h. This helps users reduce speed smoothly instead of braking abruptly near a sign.
According to Yandex, pilot testing of the feature demonstrated a positive impact on drivers’ adherence to speed limits. The service has also become more informative about traffic cameras. Users can now see which lane a camera is aimed at and whether it monitors oncoming or same-direction traffic flow.
When a camera records speed after the vehicle has passed it, the application issues an additional voice warning. This addresses situations where drivers previously assumed they could immediately resume normal speed after passing the camera housing. The new interface shows not only camera coordinates but also the direction of its “gaze.”
The updates are intended to make trips on city streets and highways more predictable, reducing uncertainty about future restrictions and camera coverage.
